Professionalism and Work Etiquette
- It is important that you arrive on time or preferably five minutes before the hour for your scheduled shift. This includes 8:00 a.m. shift.
- Write down or post online when you arrive and leave or when you start or finish your work.
- Conduct yourself in a professional way. Dress neatly. Footwear is required. DO NOT put your feet up on the front desk or tables. DO NOT sleep or eat while at work.
- If you think you will be late or you will miss work due to illness, it is essential that you notify the Coordinator.
- Do be certain that if you swap shifts with someone, you get permission and they show up.
- Please conduct business as quietly as possibly when you are working. If you need to answer your cell phone, please go out to the hallway and make it brief. If you are working in the Lab when there is a class, turn your phone off.
- Prolonged socializing with other students, including student workers, is not allowed.
- Only the scheduled Lab attendant on duty in the Lab can work on the console in the Language Lab and Communication Lab computer. No other students can use them even if they are employed by the Center.
- Keep the Center clean. Make sure to pick up all trash, even if it is not yours, when you leave.
- Student workers cannot use Center’s equipment for personal use, such as printing papers, copying materials, etc.
- When working with students, always be respectful to the student.
- Always display appropriate behavior.
- Help any student that needs help and if you have any questions, contact the Coordinator.
Care For Equipment
NO FOOD, NO BEVERAGES, NO CHEWING GUM is permitted in the Lab. An accident could ruin our expensive equipment. Report any problems to the Coordinator or the Lab Director.
Student Employee Lab Duties
1. Know how to operate the equipment so you can assist professors and students in the Lab.
2. Do not give students access to your personal account with the website.
3. Make sure no one disrupts classes or other students in the Lab, including you.
4. Do not save personal files to the hard drive.
5. Be present in the Lab at all times of your assignment period. Do not leave the Lab unattended.
6. Assist any student that needs your help.
7. If no one needs your help, you should work on something that is work related such as grading or reviewing activities for a coming week.

Check List for Each Class Period:
- Make sure that students coming to use the Lab sign-in;
- Headphones should be hanging on dividers or next to the computer;
- Computers should be logged off after every use and turned off at the end of the day;
- Equipment that is not in use should be turned off;
- Chairs should be pushed in;
- Pick up all trash left by students;
- Do not leave trash on the console;
- Remove all personal items from the console & Language Lab and Communication Lab area at the end of the assignment period;
- Do not let anybody in with food or drinks;
- All students stations and console should be cleaned at the end of the day on Friday;
- Report any problems with equipment to the Coordinator.
